About the Olympic Games:
The Olympic Games originated from acient Greece . In the ancient Greek Olympics,only men were allowed to participated in it .Modern Olympics began in 1896 through the efforts of a Frenchman ,Pierre de Coubertin .The Atlanta Olympics were the first to make profits out of the Games.  On the opening of the Olympic Games ,a torch-lighting ceremony will be held .  The Olympic Village is bulit for athletes??accommodation. The Olympics were not held because of world wars for 3 times in history . At a meeting in 1925 ,the IOC officially sanctioned the Olympic Winter Games and declared the competition at Chamonic in 1924 the first Plympic Winter Games .The International Olympic Committee is in charge of the Olympic affairs . The 2008 Olympics will be held in Beijing ,China .

The Olympic Spirit:
The Olympic motto is ?¡ãHigher,Faster,Stronger?¡À.
The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to participate.
The Olympic oath encourages athletes ,coaches and officials to observe the rules and to follow the spirit of sportsmanship.
Mutual understanding ,friendship ,unity and fair play .
The Olympic Games help promote a better and more peaceful world.
The athletes must learn to respect and to cooperate with people from many nations during the Games.

Knowledge about the Olympics :
The honor of holding the Olympic Games is entrusted to a city and not a country .
In 1912, the IOC decided to allow women to compete in the Games.
No one can be kept out of the Olympics because of religion,color or Political ideas .
The athletes in a World Cup are professionals ,while those who play in the Olympics must be amatrurs.

Olympics in China :

Beijing??s success ,economically ,will be as big a boost to Beijing as it was in the run up to the Games in Tokyo in 1964 ,and Seoul in 1988. China??s successful bid for the 2008 Olympics has given the country the international prestige it has been seeking in recent years.The Olympic Games in Beijing will be a bridge of harmony between countries and cultures .?¡ãGreen Olympics,High-tech Olympics and People??s Olympics?¡Àare our themes.

I have a question: why it's all called Beijing Olympic games, not China Olympic games?

it's all what we can do for the Olympics .your joining are highly appreciated....hehe

1. the honor of  holding the Olympic Games is entrusted to a city and not a country .
2. the IOC considers a number of factors in selecting the site of the Olympic Games, especially if it promises to build the best facilities.Beijing is the political and economy center of our country ,it has the qualitification to hold Olympic Games .
