$w A1?,w9c*fbusiness forum, trade forum, business opportunity,Business China,Business India,Brazil businessThe Bulls began NBA play in 1966, and in the mid-1970s the team won more than 50 games in four consecutive seasons. The arrival of guard Michael Jordan in the mid-1980s marked the beginning of a new period of success for Chicago, culminating in three straight NBA titles (1991-1993). Jordan retired in 1993, but after he returned to the Bulls in 1995, the team won three more NBA championshipsn 1996, 1997, and 1998. The 1995-96 team, which also included forwards Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman, compiled a 72-10 win-loss record, the NBA best ever. Chicago is one of five franchises to have won consecutive NBA titles. The others are the Los Angeles Lakers (first while located in Minneapolis and then again once the team moved to Los Angeles), the Boston Celtics, the Detroit Pistons, and the Houston Rockets.

The Bulls began NBA play in the 1966-67 season. The team registered a 33-48 win-loss record, the best ever for an NBA expansion team, and qualified for the playoffs. Before the 1968-69 season, Chicago hired Dick Motta, who had previously coached at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. Stressing a defensive approach, Motta guided the Bulls to the playoffs for six straight seasons, from 1969-70 through 1974-75.

In his third year in the NBA, Motta received the coach of the year award for guiding the Bulls to 51 wins during the 1970-71 season. For the next three years the Bulls recorded over 50 wins a season, and in 1974 the team advanced to the Western Conference Finals before losing to the Milwaukee Bucks. (Chicago moved to the Eastern Conference in 1980.) A second appearance in the conference finals followed in 1975, but Chicago lost to the Golden State Warriors in a seven-game series.

A 27-55 win-loss record during the 1983-84 season gave Chicago rights to the third pick in the 1984 NBA draft. The Bulls selected Michael Jordan, who had an instant impact on the team. During the 1984-85 season he won the NBA rookie of the year award, averaging 28.2 points per game and helping the Bulls reach the playoffs for the first time in four seasons. Chicago reached the playoffs again in 1986 and 1987. In all three years, however, the Bulls lost in the first round.+]!R!s6W2M-R"^!i6f*V:l G

Before the 1995-96 season the Bulls signed forward Dennis Rodman, who had been the league leading rebounder for four consecutive seasons. The trio of Jordan, Pippen, and Rodman powered the Bulls to 72 wins, breaking the NBA record for the most wins in a single season. (The previous record of 69 was held by the 1971-72 Lakers.) The Bulls defeated the Seattle SuperSonics in the 1996 NBA Finals, four games to two, to capture the club fourth NBA championship. The Bulls posted a 69-13 record during the 1996-97 season behind the team top scorers, Jordan and Pippen. Rodman, Kukoc, and center Luc Longley provided rebounding and outstanding defense to complete a team that dominated the Eastern Conference. The Pistons reached the NBA Finals in 1955 and 1956 but failed to win the championship. In the late 1980s and early 1990s the Pistons were one of the top squads in the league, reaching the NBA Finals from 1988 to 1990 and winning championship titles in 1989 and 1990. Guard Isiah Thomas led the team, which was nicknamed the Bad Boys for the bruising style of play of such stars as center Bill Laimbeer, guard Joe Dumars, and forwards Rick Mahorn and Dennis Rodman.FOB Business Forum!F;m'F*R/F3_%^

The Pistons were founded by Fred Zollner in 1940 as the Fort Wayne Zollner Pistons. A year later the club joined the National Basketball League (NBL), which was composed primarily of teams launched by corporations in the Midwest. Led by guard Bobby McDermott, the Pistons were a dominant force in the league, reaching the NBL championship series in their first year before falling to the Oshkosh All-Stars. Two years later, in 1943, the club lost to the Sheboygan Redskins by one point in the deciding game of the NBL Finals. The Pistons won their first NBL championship in 1944 and added a second in 1945.

In 1948 the Pistons shifted to the Basketball Association of America (BAA). When the BAA and the NBL merged to form the NBA in 1949, the Pistons were one of the new league premier teams. The club qualified for the playoffs in each of its first five NBA seasons, advancing to the division finals twice. The 1954-55 team, which featured guard Andy Phillip, forward George Yardley, and center Larry Foust, advanced to the NBA Finals but lost by one point to the Syracuse Nationals in the deciding game. The Pistons lost in the 1956 NBA Finals to the Philadelphia Warriors.

The team lineups in that period featured guard Gene Shue, forward Bailey Howell, and forward Dave DeBusschere, who came aboard in 1962. From the mid-1960s through the early 1970s the Pistons slumped. Through much of this time, the Pistons were led by guard Dave Bing. He won the rookie of the year award in the 1966-67 season and went on to become one of the league top scorers. In 1970 Bing was joined by center Bob Lanier, and the two combined to form one of the NBA抯 most powerful scoring combinations. Bing and Lanier helped Detroit reach the playoffs in 1974, but the team record slipped when Bing was traded after the 1974-75 season. In 1978 former University of Detroit coach Dick Vitale took over as head coach of the Pistons. The club moved to the Pontiac Silverdome, but its fortunes failed to improve. During the 1975-76 season the Cavaliers obtained veteran center Nate Thurmond, and he led the team to its first winning season. The club posted a 49-33 win-loss record and qualified for its first trip to the playoffs. The team success came from solid defense, Thurmond rebounding, and balanced scoring as seven Cavaliers logged scoring averages in double figures. Cleveland fell to the Boston Celtics in the 1976 conference finals. In each of the next two seasons the Cavaliers were quickly defeated in the playoffs. Plagued by injuries to veteran stars, the club slumped for six seasons, starting in 1978. Fitch quit after the 1978-79 season and was replaced by seven coaches in quick succession. Indiana Pacers, professional basketball team and one of eight teams in the Central Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Pacers play in Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana, and wear jerseys of blue, gold, and white. The team was named for Indiana history of raising harness racing horses, called pacers, and the pace car used during the Indianapolis 500.

One of the founding teams of the American Basketball Association (ABA), the Pacers won three championships in that league between 1970 and 1973. Top players in the team ABA days were center Mel Daniels and forwards George McGinnis and Roger Brown. After the Pacers joined the NBA in 1976, they performed poorly for more than a decade. But in the mid-1990s, teams led by guard Reggie Miller reached the Eastern Conference Finals in 1994, 1995, and 1998. In 2000 the Pacers reached the NBA Finals for the first time.

The Pacers began play in 1967 as an ABA team. In the 1968-69 season the club won the ABA Eastern Division, and Mel Daniels led the team in scoring and was the league top rebounder. In 1969-70 the club posted the best win-loss record in the ABA at 59-25. Daniels and Roger Brown helped the Pacers win the league championship as the team defeated the Los Angeles Stars four games to two. The next season the Pacers again compiled the ABA best record, but the club lost in the division finals to the Utah Stars. Daniels was named the league most valuable player (MVP). The Pacers?domination of the ABA continued through the early 1970s. Before the 1971-72 season George McGinnis joined the team. The star trio of Brown, Daniels, and McGinnis made Indiana one of the highest scoring teams in the ABA, and the team won the ABA title in 1972 and 1973.FOB Business Forum&e-K$\3G*\;u

In the 1974-75 season McGinnis led the ABA in scoring with an average of 29.8 points per game. He also shared MVP honors with Julius Erving of the New York Nets (later the New Jersey Nets). That season the Pacers reached the ABA Finals, where they lost to the Kentucky Colonels. Before the 1975-76 campaign McGinnis moved to the Philadelphia 76ers of the NBA, and the Pacers only registered a 39-45 win-loss record.

In the off-season the Bucks acquired Oscar Robertson, an 11-year veteran and future Hall of Fame member. In 1970-71 the team, which also included forward Bob Dandridge, registered a 66-16 win-loss record. The team marched through the playoffs and swept the Baltimore Bullets (now Washington Wizards) in the NBA Finals. For the season, Alcindor led the league in scoring with an average of 31.7 points per game and won the NBA most valuable player (MVP) award.www.fobshanghai.com:^+@0u:A;~+s

During three consecutive seasons, from 1971-72 through 1973-74, the Bucks reached the NBA playoffs. Although Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (as Alcindor was now known) won his second straight scoring title and MVP award during the 1971-72 season, the Bucks lost in the conference finals to the Los Angeles Lakers. A season later the Bucks again were ousted from the playoffs, this time in the conference semifinals by the Golden State Warriors. In 1973-74 Abdul-Jabbar earned his third MVP award, leading the Bucks to the 1974 NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics. The Celtics won in seven games, and the series, which featured two overtime games, is considered one of the most memorable in professional basketball.www.fobshanghai.com*y!z#r4C8d5U'J"r1W

#@&q7F(^$?FOB Business ForumAbdul-Jabbar missed much of the following season because of injuries, and in 1975 the club traded him to the Lakers. Without Abdul-Jabbar the Bucks remained competitive. Under head coach and former Celtics star Don Nelson, Milwaukee advanced to the 1978 conference semifinals before losing to the Denver Nuggets, four games to three.

Beginning with the 1979-80 season, the Bucks won their division for seven consecutive seasons, but each year the team lost to the powerful Philadelphia 76ers or the Celtics in the playoffs. The 1980-81 team, which included center Bob Lanier, forward Marques Johnson, and guards Sidney Moncrief, Quinn Buckner, and Brian Winters, was especially strong. It compiled 60 victories to win the Central Division, but it lost a seven-game series to the 76ers in the conference semifinals. The results in the next two seasons were similar: the best record in the Central Division and a loss to the 76ers in the conference semifinals.

In 1984 the Bucks finally defeated the 76ers in the semifinals, but they lost to the Celtics in the conference finals. Forward Terry Cummings arrived before the 1984-85 season and helped Milwaukee lead the league in defense, but the team lost in the playoffs to the 76ers in 1985 and to the Celtics in 1986.

During the late 1980s and early 1990s the Bucks compiled four consecutive winning seasons, but the club only once advanced past the first round in the playoffs. Although young, talented players such as Vin Baker and Glenn Robinson joined the team in the 1990s, the Bucks registered losing seasons from 1991-92 through 1997-98. After the lockout-shortened 1999 season, the Bucks returned to the playoffs for the first time since 1991.

9p6v1J&`;M)v.]3v[A Professional Business Forum]Toronto Raptors, professional basketball team and one of eight teams in the Central Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Raptors play at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The team wears jerseys of red, purple, black, and silver.www.fobshanghai.com-`'h/K)H;t$w7T.R8P
The Raptors franchise joined the NBA in 1994 when the league awarded an expansion team franchise to a group headed by Toronto businessman John I. Bitove. As part of the same expansion, the NBA admitted another Canadian club, the Vancouver Grizzlies. The Raptors and Grizzlies became the league first Canadian teams since the Toronto Huskies competed in the 1946-47 campaign of the Basketball Association of America (BAA), the forerunner of the NBA.www.fobshanghai.com7_8~7X2w:o;f,R

In May 1994, the name Raptorsrom the name of a carnivorous dinosaur as selected for the club, and Isiah Thomas, a well-known former NBA player who won two NBA titles with the Detroit Pistons, was hired as general manager. Thomas named former Pistons assistant coach Brendan Malone as Toronto first head coach.

#q1X%H)D,S2sFOB Business ForumThe Raptors won a coin toss with the Grizzlies for the right to the first pick in the 1995 NBA expansion draft, in which the new teams would each select one player from an existing NBA team. The Raptors selected guard B. J. Armstrong of the Chicago Bulls. They then traded Armstrong to the Golden State Warriors in exchange for forward Carlos Rogers and center Victor Alexander. In the regular draft of college players, the Raptors selected guard Damon Stoudamire. In the team inaugural season, Stoudamire led the Raptors in scoring with an average of 19 points per game, finished fifth in the league in assists with 9.3 per game, and won the rookie of the year award. The Raptors finished the season with a 21-61 win-loss record. In the 1996 NBA draft, the Raptors selected forward-center Marcus Camby, the college player of the year.

"w'U-V6Y&q9~,uIn 1997 Thomas left the Raptors to work as a basketball analyst for the National Broadcasting Company (NBC). His departure precipitated a shake-up in the team roster, including trades of both Stoudamire and Camby. The most highly regarded new player to join the team was guard Vince Carter, who won the rookie of the year award in the lockout-shortened 1999 season.
