What Time Is It?

Every once and a while we veer away from our ???normal programming??? and offer up high-frequency phrases you will use everyday. Today happens to be ???once??? and now is actually ???in a while??? so grab that ???authentic??? Rolex you bought near your hotel and join us for a beginner??s lesson on telling time.

We??re Too Polite

The driver picking you up from the airport brought so many flowers, he looked like an Asian Steve Irwin and you wonder if the Chinese are polite to their friends/family? In this beginner lesson Ken and Jenny nicely promenade you through a cultural lesson on Chinese mannerisms.

Baby Talk #2

With the overwhelming response we received from the lesson we recently had on ???Baby Talk???, we decided to do another. In this newbie show, we include popular common phrases such as: ???Good boy/girl???, ???Be careful!??? and ???Don??t be naughty???. Think these phrases are only for people adopting children? Listen close and you??ll hear Jenny confess that her parents still use some of these on her!

Fa Piao

If you??ve spent any time here, or plan to; you??ll notice a strange piece of paper being asked for at the end of meals/cab rides/etc. What is it? We??d better let Jenny explain; and if you??re lucky, she??ll include a lil?? cultural insight as well. ChinesePod??the taste of fantastic.

Feeling Uncomfortable

With a menu full of Sichuan food and a passion for all things oil/MSG, you might end up with the lesser-know ???Beijing Belly???. So unless you care to ???assume the position??? in a off-color game of charades, you might benefit from a lesson on ???not feeling well???. Light a match!

Downloading Music

You can go to iTunes, subscribe to an RSS feed and arrange them all in your personal learning center all by yourself? You??re all growed up, aren??t ya? Now, tell us that in Mandarin and move to the front of the class. In this lesson, Ken (on a time out) and Jenny (a gold star) forego nap time to help you talk about all things ???downloadable???.

Definitely!

While ???nothing is absolute???, we shudder to imagine a world without tying someone down??erm, metaphorically speaking, of course. In this newbie lesson, Ken and Jenny unquestionably and beyond doubt teach you an indisputably certain lesson on a verbal confirmation (my right-click finger hurts-undeniably).

Baby Talk #3-Praise

With our first 2 lessons on ???baby-talk??? we really thought we were reaching out to those adopting from China; but after an internal investigation, we realized that the majority of the emails coming in were actually from Ken who likes to be talked to that way??unfortunately, with the previous May holidays, we didn??t have time to re-record something bit more topical, so bear with us as Jenny ???teaches??? Ken all about praising a whippersnapper.

Baby Talk #4

In another addition to our ???Baby Talk??? series, Ken and Jenny talk this time about encouraging your tike to eat something??or not. As far as explaining why ???fish at the table??? and ???fish in the bowl??? are different, you??re on your own.

How Are You?

Almost 200 shows ago (we??ve grown old together, how sweet) we introduced ChinesePod to the world with a show on how to ask ???how are you???? With all the newbie??s joining us daily, we thought we??d revisit a basic lesson??but with a twist. In this lesson, Ken and Jenny help out beginners with a show on ???good morning??? greets.

I Miss You!

Despite our unbelievably good music taste (Ken likes anything he can do the ???big box-little box??? dance to; Jenny??s more of a country music gal), it wasn??t until our ???80??s Friday Office Party??? that we realized we could make a lesson out of a Milli Vanilli ballad. In this retro-fueled lesson, we teach you how to express your longing for one. Don??t forget our number!

What??s His Name?

With every 4th child born in the world being Chinese-there??s a good chance you??ll meet a few. In this newbie lesson, we help you ask not only about names of new ???peng you???, but other information that might just get you an invite to that ???famous restaurant??? in town (word of warning: they all are famous).

Phone Calls

You can??t make an appointment with anyone if you can??t. You can??t call a friend to meet you at the bar to talk about not being able to make an appointment. You can??t order pizza??you get the idea. In this newbie lesson, Ken and Jenny walk you through a basic phone call.

I Like Beef

In the 80??s it was ???Where??s the?????, in the 90??s it was ???What??s For Dinner??? and in the ummm??0??s, it??s the focus of our lesson. In a show for the newcomers, Ken and Jenny discuss a discussion dealing with carnivores and their preferences.
