My first travel to Korea (#6 updated)

One Canadian friend dislikes Korea and its people. He considers that Korean people are too arrogant. Another friend dealing in foreign trade holds similar point of view. He was once deceived by Korean merchants. I had no idea at that time.O1y;@,z~VbR

I traveled to Seoul for business last week.

)]{L+z v.s ^(ArM When I strolled around, I found small national flags all along the street. On the Korean international channel, I heard they called their own country the best country in the world. Does this demonstrate that Korean people are arrogant? I was kind of puzzled.

!p6oQ)H7Ls Then one day, we couldn't manage to find the way to the exhibition center. So I asked two passers-by. They were two young men. E&oth'F-m+d
Excuse me. Can you speak English??
dy9z)C0~ L Yes. But just a little.?One of them answered, smiling shyly.8a[9X@:pK~
Then I told him the name of exhibition center.e1Cqb0py9W~w G
When he finished his task, one blush escaped him.

The other day, I couldn't find my hotel. The only information was the room card. Again I asked a passer-by, a young girl. She took out her cellphone and called the hotel at once, with the telephone number recorded on the room card. Then she kindly accompanied me to the hotel, which was actually 200 or 300 meters away.

So polite, kind and introverted they are. Do they embody most Korean? My brain cells were running fast and complicatedly.

On the show, one man approached our booth. I gave him a gentle and polite smile. He looked through our products. To my surprise, the first sentence he uttered was 'our face is very pretty?' with his poor English. I got the meaning after begging his pardon many times. He repeated patiently. Oh my! How can a man say such words to a girl at so formal occasions?? j9Yz#D5A-OI

They love their country but with arrogance.4e*wW_bU H/A
We Chinese will be also polite if we see foreigners in the street. It is very strange, why, we do not be polite and kind to our own people but good to foreigners. Korean people too.)D"f#a~1W5g-z5F#}(O9W_5S

We strolled along the street, in hoping of searching one restaurant whose waiters could speak Chinese or English, at the first night in Seoul. H[-yd3\D` ?r

Since we took an informal taxi that cost us nearly RMB1000 just for one-hour journey, we realized the purchasing standard of Korean. Our boss decided to choose one less luxurious restaurant.
+~+q)UP;V m/XZZI
?4RG9QI,} Then we entered one, and luckily found that two waiters were Chinese. As we took off our shoes and sat down at the table, a female waiter kindly presented the menu, which was illustrated with vivid pictures. Most dishes were spicy. At the printed prices, our eyes were bugging out of our head. Only one plain soup would cost RMB30. Chinese knew well of Chinese taste. We left the honor of ordering to the Chinese waiter. As soon as she ordered, some small dishes of Kim Chi were displayed. Currently Kim Chi is quite popular in China. I was always scared at its color, which giving me the impression of deadly spicy. But I was convinced of its charm after tasting a bit. It was not as spicy as I thought. Our first meal cost about RMB300, with only four bowls of soups and rice.

After dinner, we headed for a 24-hour shop to buy something for breakfast. We bought some instant noodles and two pretty big pears. One small size bowl of noodles cost RMB13, another RMB8, in all of which we found no dehydrated vegetable or meat the next day.

Mdq-ja ujP The other day, we tasted Korean baked beef and alcohol. It was the most luxurious dinner we had during our stay in Seoul. It was about RMB1000. I will upload the picture of our feast later if needed.

It draws to the conclusion that few Korean eat plenty of vegetables or meat every day. They often have simple dishes. I once asked one Korean friend about their daily meal. He told me that usually there were many dishes of Kim Chi and one big bowl of soul which with some vegetables. One more thing, most Korean use steel chopsticks as we see in their TV series. Only the weights of chopsticks differ.!nR;f _ g
